TAX REFORM

In 2023 Jackson County assessors wrongfully increased the property taxes of nearly every homeowner they could, with some families now facing impossibly high tax bills. This burden was placed on the taxpayers unfairly and improperly, all because government bureaucrats couldn’t be trusted to do their job. Rising to the challenge, Sean Smith used his seat in the Jackson County Legislature to help thousands of taxpayers get relief. Sean even traveled all the way to Jefferson City to help the Missouri state legislature find a solution. Working with both Democrats and Republicans to solve this problem, Sean was asked to speak to lawmakers in Jefferson City.

911 IMPROVEMENTS

As the 911 Oversight Committee Chairman of Jackson County, Sean Smith led the charge to update the infrastructure used by our local police and fire departments. Sean Smith prioritized public safety by increasing funding for police and fire services. By creating a coalition across party lines, Sean was able to unite lawmakers even in the face of the national ‘Defund The Police’ movement.

LANDFILL OPPOSITION

When developers came to south Kansas City trying to build a landfill in the middle of a bustling neighborhood, Sean Smith stood up for the people. Siding with families over corporations, Sean Smith introduced a resolution to the Jackson County Legislature that opposed the construction of a landfill. By reaching across the aisle, Sean Smith was able to get both Republicans and Democrats to vote against the idea of building a landfill in south Kansas City.
